Mosaics of John's Lane
Due to the brillance of the windows, soaring arches and graceful pillars, the mosaics in this church sometimes do not get the attention they deserve. Particularly worthy of mention are the two at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Counsel, the one nearer the outside is one of only two Nativity scenes in the church and photographs  particularly well...
The inner, near the altar, is of the Annunciation. It is very similar in style to the Nativity mosaic, as is clearly evident. Nevertheless the detail is just as crisp and fresh when viewed close-up.
There are some fine mosaics in tile and glass at the Sacred Heart Altar and also at the St. Rita of Cascia Shrine.  To the right of the high altar is a lovely mosaic of St. Joseph.

On the left hand side is another one of St. Nicholas of Tolentine, an Italian Augustinian noted for his devotion to the souls in Purgatory.

Don't forget to look down !  The floor of the sanctuary and both side-altars is an intricate lacework of beautiful tiling with the traditional Augustinian logo / crest depicted in front of the high altar.  This mosaic can be seen at the top left on this and the other pages...
